Rachel (Cochran) Newcom, w/o John, is believed to have been born either in Indiana County or somewhere in central Pennsylvania, the daughter of Isaac Cochran and Sarah McKinstry, who came to the Mahoning Valley area in the very early 1800s or before.
She was the sister of Lydia (Cochran) Jordan [w/o Samuel Jordan], Sarah (Cochran) Hepler, Joseph Cochran (h/o Eliza Cary), William Cochran, and Nancy Cochran, all of whom were early settlers of the Jefferson County, PA area.
Rachel and her husband John Newcom were pioneers of Perry Township, Jefferson County and are presumed to have been members of the old Presbyterian congregation there. She was the mother of nine known children, the youngest of whom was Susannah (Newcom) McGee.
